Build Camp 2016 Preview

Looking forward to next years exciting projects.

If you have questions about Build Camp please direct them to Josh Chapman at 801-792-2394 or BuildingBigDreams@gmail.com

Build Camp 2015 was a huge success. We had about 80 youth and parents participate in 5 different events. This year our Build Camp participants built 2 motorized drift trikes, a 7' diameter hover craft, a spot welder, a Jacobs ladder, a tree house (without a tree), a large billows for a forge, 2 dozen tool boxes, about 18 hand powered pump drills, a couple dozen woodcarving knives, and about 25 wooden toy robots.
We taught children (and parents) to properly wear personal protective equipment, operate a mig welder, use hand drills, miter saw, band saw (wood and metal), grinders, nail guns, pipe bender, metal lathe, milling machine, table saw, jig saw, and more. Participants also had the opportunity to disassemble old TVs, printers, fax machines, computers and other electronics.

Here is a sneak peak at plans at next year's Build Camp events:

Pinewood Derby Camp. March 5th 2016 (with a possible follow up on March 12.) The problem with your local pinewood derby event is that no one can test their car and spend some time with final tweaks and finishing touches. We will build a test track and cover all sorts of tips and tricks to make your car the fastest one out there. Parent and child team $139. Each additional child from the same family $79.                                                           Build Camp Jr. May 21st and July 30th 2016 A one day camp specifically for children 5-10 years old. Wood toys, gadgets, and science projects. Fun projects for young kids. $139 for child/parent teams and $79 for each additional child.
Build Camp Blacksmith. June 24-25 2016 Get back to our roots by rediscovering the work of the most clever individuals of old days. Learn the basics of setting up a forge, heating metal and pounding it into something amazing. Also build tools with a mixture of ancient and modern technology.  $179 per child, $189 Per parent.

Arduino Robotics. July 7 - July 9 Arduino is a mini micro controller (computer processor) that allows you to control inputs and outputs. Want a sensor to automatically water your plants? It can do it. How about a doorbell that tells solicitors to go away? We are going to use it to build a robot arm that can be programmed to play a xylophone or stack cups or assemble legos or anything else you can think of.
Each child will come home with his or her own Arduino controller, robotic arm, and a box of accessories valued over $75.
$399 per child, $189 Per parent.
CNC3D. July 14-16 Everyone knows what a 3D printer is, but how hard are they to use? What can you do with them? We will use one to build parts for other projects like our CNC machine and our robots. A CNC machine uses a computer to control a cutter which can cut almost any shape imaginable in wood, metal, and plastic. Problem is they can cost upwards of $500,000. We can do better than that. We will build a smaller but still sturdy machine for much cheaper. We can then use the CNC machine to cut parts for robots, more CNC machines, Tesla Coils and more.
$239 per child, $189 Per parent. Build and take home your own 3D printer for an extra $549. Must prepay by May 1st 2015.
Musical Tesla Coil. August 11-13 Never heard of one? This bad boy uses 750,000 volts to play music. the sound is created by making thunder at the specific frequency we select. $299 per child, $189 Per parent.
