Build Camp Grants

An exciting opportunity for Build Camp fans.

Welcome to Build Camp 2016! Please read this post as it contains important and valuable information.
We are planning some very exciting programs this year for build camp including robotics, 3D printing and CAD, blacksmithing, building a pottery wheel, dune buggy, musical Tesla Coil, and a pine wood derby.

The best part is we found an amazing grant to fund your Build Camp experience.

We are very excited to announce a fantastic opportunity for everyone planning to attend Build Camp this year.

The State of Utah has allocated funds to support youth and children (K-12) in their desires to learn about STEM subjects (Stem stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). What that means to you is an AWESOME opportunity to come to build camp with little to no money from your own pocket.

BUT YOU MUST ACT FAST! No Really, the deadline for grant applications expires one week from today on January 29, 2016 at midnight.

Build Camp fees for 2016 will run between $179 and $399 depending on the camps you choose to attend.
The STEM grant will pay up to $500 toward your camp fees. This means you could attend Build Camp for free!

I just got finished talking to the administrator of the STEM Grant and they are very excited to provide opportunities for you and your kids to come to Build Camp.

Additional information and application links can be found here: http://stem.utah.gov/for-students/grants/

Here are some important notes to consider when applying for the grant:
  • Students are required to complete the online application form this week. The STEM action center wants kids to fill out the applications themselves and really show their interest in Build Camp. They want to know why they think Build Camp will provide them with an amazing opportunity to grow in their abilities, demonstrate an understanding of STEM subjects, and strengthen their STEM knowledge. If you are not sure how to inspire your child, have them call me, Josh Chapman 801-792-2394 for a 1 on 1 conversation and I will see what I can do.
  • Applications are competitive meaning each application will be evaluated based on grade level/age for persuasive writing, excitement of student, and desire to participate. They will also decide if it looks like a parent did all the work for the student. In other words, help them but don't do it for them.  The goal is for students to take part in the application process as much as possible. The STEM Action Center recognizes that some students may need assistance. However, the application should be the student’s responsibility. You have nothing to loose by applying. You will be able to choose which camp you want to attend after the grant is awarded.
  • Students must list a mentor (parent, teacher, coach, etc.) who will support them with their project.
  • The listed mentor must submit an electronic letter of recommendation for the student or team through the online application portal. Emailed or hard copy letters will not be accepted.
  • All student and mentor information must be completed through the online application portal BEFORE the application deadline January 29th 2016. No incomplete or late forms will be accepted.
  • All receipts are required for reimbursement. Receipts must be submitted through the application portal no later than 10 days after the camp. Receipts must be submitted before the end of June. If attending Build Camp after June 30th they request that the receipts are all turned in by June 20th.
  • Students will be required to participate in a short survey after the camp.
This year Build Camp is planning a lot of exciting activities including robotics, 3D printing and CAD, blacksmithing, building a pottery wheel, dune buggy, musical Tesla Coil, and a pine wood derby.
