Printing Basics 101

Covering getting started, mechanics, basics, and troubleshooting. Big helps for those assembling a printer kit or those who plan to build or modify a printer. This class will help you learn the basics: What is a stepper Motor and driver? How do printers work? How does an Arduino control a printer? Do I have to write my own firmware? How can I find help when things go wrong?

We will teach the basics about building a 3D printer. You will learn how they work, learn the lingo, learn how to adjust and solve problems.

We will save some time at the end of class to give specific help to those who bring their own printer for help.

Printing Software 102

Covering printing methods, skills, and software. You got your printer up and running, Now What? How do I get my prints to work? How do I solve the issues with my prints? How do I solve this non-manifold problem?

In this class you will learn how to find useful and intriguing models on the internet, learn how to make a lithophane, learn what file types you need and what software programs to use.

Learn how to find a model, slice a model, best print settings, what software to use, how to import files, repair broken files, troubleshoot print issues.

3D modeling 103

3D model your own ideas. But I want to design my own stuff! How do I create a part that fits my unique needs? I want to design a new product. How do I get started? Is there any software that isn’t crazy expensive?

Learn how to design your own model. What software to use. How to get started. The first basic tools to design your own parts and models. Some tips on modifying existing models.

Build Camp 3D Printing for Adults is coming to a neighborhood near you.

Build Camp is an amazing opportunity for youth to learn new skills, gain confidence, and thrive in a world where only talent is rewarded. Now we are adding an opportunity for adults  to lget in on the action.
We decided to open these classes for local communities throughout the intermountain west. We will bring the class to your local communities with sufficient local support. Please send an email if you would like to organize and host an event near you. We prefer to hold classes in community centers, library meeting rooms, churches, or even homes. (Low or no cost venues)

Event organizers are rewarded with a free printer once they enroll sufficient participants to cover certain hard costs and minimum class attendance. Become an event host here.

    Get your own 3D Printer.
    Learn how to use it.
    Learn to build cool things.
Gain valuable experience for your resume.

You will have expert instruction to put the printer together from a box of parts. That means you will gain a fundamental understanding of how it works, and how to make it better if you ever choose to do so.

Your build day is the day listed on the event. We will run from 8:30 AM to about 4:00 PM. any construction that doesn't get completed on this day should be finished at home before the next meet up. (Some local events are held on Saturdays a week apart, other events are crammed into 2 consecutive days due to travel considerations.)
With your printer 100% assembled you are ready for a crash course in 3D printing software. configure your printer and get all your questions answered, and develop your skills.

You will also be instructed on how to install software on your computer, set up the printer, use the software to prepare a model for printing, and finally print out a plastic part suitable for building hobby parts, machines, and artistic sculpture.

You will need to bring your own computer. We prefer Windows or Linux. But the software we recommend also works on Mac.

The course will run over 2 days. Please help us spread the word and share this event on your media of choice.

For just $499 ($299 for the printer, $200 tuition) you will take home your own hand built 3D printer. that is a savings of over $325 compared to similar courses like this one: here. Add additional family members for just $99 each.

Participants should come prepared with a 6" calipers such as this caliper or this one at Harbor Freight  which often goes on sale for about $10. watch the ads for coupons.
