Printing Basics 101

Covering getting started, mechanics, basics, and troubleshooting. Big helps for those assembling a printer kit or those who plan to build or modify a printer. This class will help you learn the basics: What is a stepper Motor and driver? How do printers work? How does an Arduino control a printer? Do I have to write my own firmware? How can I find help when things go wrong?

We will teach the basics about building a 3D printer. You will learn how they work, learn the lingo, learn how to adjust and solve problems.

We will save some time at the end of class to give specific help to those who bring their own printer for help.

Printing Software 102

Covering printing methods, skills, and software. You got your printer up and running, Now What? How do I get my prints to work? How do I solve the issues with my prints? How do I solve this non-manifold problem?

In this class you will learn how to find useful and intriguing models on the internet, learn how to make a lithophane, learn what file types you need and what software programs to use.

Learn how to find a model, slice a model, best print settings, what software to use, how to import files, repair broken files, troubleshoot print issues.

3D modeling 103

3D model your own ideas. But I want to design my own stuff! How do I create a part that fits my unique needs? I want to design a new product. How do I get started? Is there any software that isn’t crazy expensive?

Learn how to design your own model. What software to use. How to get started. The first basic tools to design your own parts and models. Some tips on modifying existing models.

Build Camp Jr. May 21st and July 30th 2016 A one day camp specifically for children 5-10 years old. Wood toys, gadgets, and science projects. Fun projects for young kids. Reg $139 for child/parent teams and $79 for each additional child.
Build Camp Blacksmith. June 24-25 2016 Get back to our roots by rediscovering the work of the most clever individuals of old days. Learn the basics of setting up a forge, heating metal and pounding it into something amazing. Also build tools with a mixture of ancient and modern technology.  Reg $239 per child, $189 per adult.

Arduino Robotics. July 7 - July 9 Arduino is a mini micro controller (computer processor) that allows you to control inputs and outputs. Want a sensor to automatically water your plants? It can do it. How about a doorbell that tells solicitors to go away? We are going to use it to build a robot arm that can be programmed to play a xylophone or stack cups or assemble legos or anything else you can think of.

Each child will come home with his or her own Arduino controller, robotic arm, and a box of accessories valued over $200.
Reg $399 per child, $189 per parent/adult. (adult price does not include robot. contact Josh to add robot kit.)

3D Printing and CNC Machining. July 14-16
Everyone knows what a 3D printer is, but how hard are they to use? What can you do with them? We will use one to build parts for other projects like our CNC machine and our robots. A CNC machine uses a computer to control a cutter which can cut almost any shape imaginable in wood, metal, and plastic. The problem is they can cost upwards of $500,000. We can do better than that. We will build a smaller but still sturdy machine for much cheaper. We can then use the CNC machine to cut parts for robots, more CNC machines, Tesla Coils and more.

Reg $239 per child, $189 Per parent. Build and take home your own 3D printer for an extra $399. Must prepay by May 1st 2016.

Musical Tesla Coil. August 11-13 Never heard of one? This bad boy uses 750,000 volts to play music. the sound is created by making thunder at the specific frequency we select. Reg $239 per child, $189 Per parent.
